February’s (Almost) Gone

Pictured: a headdress I am working on, made of paper mache and thermoplastic in the form of a raven’s skull, perched atop the glass mannequin head.

Throughout the month I have hinted some exciting things might be coming up in March, and I’ll get to that in a second. First, I’m going to do a very short February review.

This February was much different for me than any previous ones since I have started working in floral, and as I said, I didn’t necessarily know how to handle it. Having any days off during the first half of the month has been unheard of, and I didn’t know what to do with them. It didn’t “feel like” February all month because I wasn’t exhausted.

Overall, a very good thing, but I had trouble figuring out a good balance of rest and work. Initially, I felt I should have got more accomplished, but the past week I have been extra productive and have been left feeling just fine. February, you were alright.

March, I am super looking forward to seeing what happens. Fusionbeads.com is running their annual daily beading event, and I downloaded and printed the calendar to participate. Some days I have no interest in participating in, but others I am looking forward to, and there are also some I am looking forward to… but won’t be home.

I have three events I am attending next month! The first is a floral conference on March 5th, which I won’t say much about, but should be fun. The third is a concert and little trip to Chicago, which I will talk more about once I have went. The second, however, is a possible business opportunity and should also be a good time.

Paganicon, March 17th, 18th, and 19th seems like it would be a great venue for Emerald Raven Creations to participate in, so I am attending this year to check it out. Anything that has an art show as part of the regular offerings is promising, and pictures from previous years show attendees wearing a variety of masks and headpieces. Add to that a possible draw to more unique jewelry and I’m SO EXCITED.

I’ve spent the past week working on various headbands/headpieces and today’s featured picture is the start of my masquerade ball costume. There’s a costume contest, so I’m obviously going to participate in that (if I can). With any luck it will garner interest in my work. While it is a local affair, it has guests and artists from around the country attending, and I’m really looking forward to seeing if it is a good fit.

Speaking of fit, it’s about time to try actually -wearing- the headdress. It’s been drying on the mannequin head, and while I have tried it on a couple times, I haven’t tried it on since I coated it with gesso. Hopefully didn’t make it feel any heavier. It is surprisingly light, because of the paper mache technique I used, but we’ll see.

Join me Thursday to hear about “America’s Favorite Craft Glue.”
