I mentioned some time back I was gearing up for Grand Old Day… June 7th. While I suppose June 8th I should have done a blog post featuring this event, I got into talking about my grandmothers’ things at the fair and… really wanted to write about that.
Grand Old Day was kind of a flop for me. The other artists who have done the event in the past said it was a lower turn out than they usually see and they saw a third of the sales they would usually make. I got many compliments on my set up from possible customers and the other artists- many couldn’t believe it was my first “real” show.
I wasn’t expecting a whole table to myself, so I was glad I made a ton of masks the two weeks prior!
The earrings, rings, and wire jewelry section.
I should have taken a close-up picture of the “bracelet totem” since you can’t see it very well at all…
So many hours of work! I’m really starting to love making masks. The bookmarks were also fun to make but garnered next to zero attention.
Bonuses: the show was free because I’m part of Mims Artists’ Collective. Lots of people saw my things, a couple picked up business cards and mentioned they wanted specific things. I really hope the lady who runs a masked gala event contacts me! Mims fed us food and snacks and was an awesome host. I look forward to continuing this partnership.
Cons: I sold one thing, to one of the other artists. I wasn’t expecting the level of wind and had to pick things up a couple times. I left my extra safety pins at home.
Lots of experience and I look forward to building on it at Music in Mears Thursday nights during the summer. I’ll save that for another post, since I won’t be attending until at least the 24th! Overall, it was a successful learning venture. One of the other artists told me it was good I got a “zero” show out of the way right off the bat. It’s only up from here then!
