Unusual Inspiration

Welcome to August! Before we move forward, let us look backwards a little.

On Saturday I attended “Ren in the Glen,” a newer (this was year five) Renaissance Festival. The ticket seller, door keeper, and two vendors commented on my necklace and told me I should be a vendor next year. I’m definitely going to consider it. More importantly, for some reason (hence this entry’s title), it finally gave me the last push to put in an application for a holiday boutique.

I first learned about the boutique in the Spring Art Crawl book and filed it away as a possibility. It is going to be at the same time as 13GEARS. Speaking of, I will really super officially be a vendor. Mark your calendars for November 5th!

Back to the point, something about applying for the holiday boutique paralyzed me and made me terribly anxious. I suppose it was because it would be a “cold call” of sorts. The person running the event has never heard of me, has been running her event for years and years, and has a cadre of artisans. The event is juried, I have never attempted to be part of a juried event.

I thought I had until the end of August, but realized on Saturday the deadline was Sunday. I put together pictures I had taken, took some new pictures, typed everything up, and sent it out. I guess we’ll find out on that. That random people had taken interest in my jewelry and commented finally gave me the ability to put that anxiety aside and JUST DO IT.

Now I need to get things together for Tangletown, which is due August 15th, but I hope to get everything together and sent this afternoon/evening. Wednesday at the latest! With the Collective disbanded, I am not automatically included in the event and need to send in an application. It will be different, in location, and in fellow artists. More nerves.

Adding to my unusual inspirations this week, I purchased a dress mannequin this previous weekend and a vise (thank you, John) arrived on my doorstep (thank you, Hope). Cutting jump rings with a vise is DEFINITELY going to be the way to do it. More about that Thursday!

Only four shows at Music in Mears remain, this month will see the end of that show. I’m looking forward to the extra studio time, but going to miss the interactions. I really need to kick up production this month, since I will possibly have items at four different places at once in November!

Chema Malu in Anoka is considering me, there’s the holiday boutique which runs a couple weeks, 13GEARS on the 5th, and MSUS is having a bazaar, too. OH MY. Christmas in July, it’s all starting to make sense…
