Unwritten Goals

I didn’t mention it here at all, but while cleaning up and reorganizing the studio, I came across some supplies I just… know I’m never going to use. Rose Art and Crayola things and some “all in one” kits various people had given to me for Christmas or my birthday. I decided I should re-home them, though I wasn’t sure how or when or what…

I wanted the space, I wanted these perfectly fine (for other people) supplies to get used, and I kept that in the back of my mind where ideas sometimes die.

Thankfully, this one didn’t. A lovely person posted on one of the Facebook groups I joined as part of the business challenge, looking for supply donations. She had a craft group she did as part of work at an Alzheimer’s home, did anyone have things?

As an additional bonus, she was looking for cardboard tubes. I had… sort of been hording them… We had gerbils as pets and very much adored keeping them, but just have not got around to actually finding some again. So I’m passing those along, too. Plus I picked up some paper from a scrapbooker friend.

This all ties into a goal I had for myself several years ago that was unwritten and, sadly so far, has not been followed through on. I wanted to purchase crayons/colored pencils and coloring books to donate to a women’s shelter. I know, there are far more useful things for them. I know they could probably make better use of the money. But I can’t imagine a much better or grounding thing for any children passing through then to have their own book and supplies, easily portable for wherever they might be going after, and a proven way to release stress and feel better.

Obviously I think art is important and it has given me great relief through the years. I think that is important to pass along to future generations. And, in this case that has actually happened, to previous generations. Art is for everyone. Craft is for everyone.

Those statements, and the art itself, are important.
