Who Are Your Representatives?

Hey all, I’ve got the flu. I started working on a tool post yesterday and then suddenly felt pretty awful. I figured I would finish it today… and instead I slept. I’ve got aches, chills, and a nice fever going on. I hope I didn’t share with coworkers.

Not so violently alert now, I thought I would do a quick thing dear to my own heart this month, about actually making a stand instead of being apathetic.

You see, the United States is not actually a democracy as many seem to believe. It is a representative republic. We don’t directly vote on things, we vote people to represent us in our government. Knowing who represents you can be kind of confusing, but the internet is actually here to help!

If you Google “Who are my representatives?” several different sites will come up that allow you to simply insert an address or zip code and immediately get answers. This is especially easy for Federal representation, but seems to vary a bit more for states.

Minnesota is pretty transparent, and has a neat tool, called the District Finder. I used it yesterday to find and write to my state reps because there’s a nasty bill called “HF 322” I don’t want to see pass. It has been a couple years since I wrote to anyone in government, but I think the coming years will be different.

Anyway, that’s my little tool introduction for today. I’m going back to sleep…
